Picked this up at the December Rose Bowl. It is the classic Elf on a Shelf although this one has his eyes closed. As these decorations tend to lack markings it can be difficult to find information on them. As usual the only information is others making guesses. As there is no real info I will pass on putting an age estimate on this other than vintage.
This is a fairly tall shelf elf. With legs unfolded he stands 10 1/2" tall. He has the standard issue jingly bell on the end of his hat.
And this is how you post something when you have no clue.

Ha ha, you did a good job of posting something with no clue! ;))

For myself, I've never understood the appeal of Elf on a Shelf, I suppose now it's all about childhood nostalgia. I'll see what I can find out about their origins and get back to you. :)

Okay, these are officially known as knee-huggers, originated in the 50s/60s by a company called Yuletide of Japan. That's what you have, a knee hugger. Elf on a Shelf is a different creation inspired by a vintage elf, written in a book and turned into a kit to create elves,, started by Chanda Bell.

Cute little guy :-) I had a whole box of these old knee huggers from japan in a box lot from a auction many years ago . I kept them till last year and was stupid and threw them out :-( Before I realized they are collectible

He's scheming you know. The taxidermy is not safe. I would cover him with a nice, big enamel pot and bang on it with one of your best spoons.

The you can have a great Christmas!
