    AmphoraPot…
    (48 items)

This piece is not what I'd call a classic beauty but rather strangely attractive. I have to wonder if the inspiration is a snail given the spiral sides and the color and markings of the mouth, which appears to emerge from the rest of the object.

It is 5" high and circa 1930.

Visit http://www.tresbohemes.com/2016/06/czech-art-deco-pottery-ditmar-urbach/ to read about the history of this pottery manufactory.

I’d guess Belgian and I agree circa 30s or very early 40s. Possibly Thulin.

or Dutch ..... but I agree with art.pottery definitely from the area. The glaze is called Muvelée. Try this site : http://www.spuitglazuur.nl/

Art.pottery and vetraio, thank you much for your takes on this. And excellent website reference, vetraio. Glad you like the snail, inky. Pure speculation on my part.

I purchased my first mid-century piece from a ceramics dealer in the Netherlands the other day and shared photos of the vase that we're trying to figure out. Here's what he said: "Difficult to say: 1930 is the period I think. If I had to gamble (based on the color) it could be French or Belgian. Not Dutch. It is a pity that the bottom does not give more information. Most of the time German and Dutch pieces have marks (names, numbers). French and Belgian ceramic pieces do not always have this."

I decided to explore mid-century pottery of Eastern Europe and found it. It was made by Ditmar Urbach of Czechoslovakia, seemingly in the 30s like all of you said. Go to http://www.antelopeantiques.com/Czech.htm and scroll a little more than halfway down. You will see the same form with a different glaze. Look at https://www.pinterest.com/clairehill1/ditmar-urbach/ to see a variety of Ditmar pieces and it will leave no doubt, I believe. Lastly, the mark for numerous Art Deco Ditmar pieces is comprised of linear black lettering. You can see some remnants of that on my piece.
