    I have been trying to identify this lantern. It has a machined brass base, with a striker of some kind. The name on it seems to be ARF--. Any help would be appreciated .

      It looks to be a coal mine lantern. Never saw one with a red lens though.

      Could be railroad..but I would bet it was from a mine..It looks like a blast-proof construction.

      Late reply, I've just signed up. Here's my guess ARF may be ARP - Air Raid Precautions. If so, this might have been used in British cities during the German bombing raids to mark road dangers. Because of the possibility of broken town gas pipes, safety lamps had to be used. A different pattern with a blue glass - https://au.pinterest.com/pin/453737731183099949/
