Many of the stones that form this dramatic piece are REVERSE SET, which means backwards and in the photo, you can see they used 10-12 prongs just to mount (set) each of them !! Astonishing !!~
I won this set from an auction ending Nov. 26, 2017, and got it by December 04, 2017.
This also falls under the category of Sherman's distinctive and consistent use of particular findings, such as flower clasps, double, triple or quadruple marquise set ends, and extenders with a certain amount of beads.
This necklace uses some stones, as I said REVERSE SET, so they are very time consuming. Considering the construction, and number and type of stones used, this would have been an expensive set to produce. I believe this set is more special, and they do not seem to have one of these pictured in the book, which gives creedence to the rarity !!~ The signature must be maybe very early 50's and closer to the old stone settings, where they might have used more labour intensive stones to mount ! The necklace is marked on the back, Sherman on a small silver oval and Sherman on the back of the ear screws. The stone are in excellent condition and you see so few of these sets with REVERSE set stones, it makes one wonder why they used such labour intensive work. The way the construction works is unusal in that they join some settings to almost form the shape on the one side which keeps the stones in the right formation. The stones continuing up the piece all the way to the clasp continue to be REVERSE set !~ ....G

Celiene, my sister often tries them on and wears them. I have been giving her pieces that I collected by other makers and not as many sherman expensive pieces as she does things like jump into bed with them on.
