    These are builders' photos, also known as "pasters". They were supplied by the various manufacturers as aids to their salesmen, and for the railroads' reference.

    The cards seen here are promoting two Lehigh Valley steam engines. The data on the reverse indicates their dimensions and capabilities.

    Peculiar to the LV are the "Bethlehem boosters" seen on both tenders. They were meant to add power in assisting the line's engines over mountainous terrain. The accomplished this goal to a degree, but the idea was abandoned as the mechanical engineers could not get the boosters to work in sync with the engines' drivers at the desired speeds. This caused the boosters to disintegrate.
