Peacock feather decoration was used extensively by Tiffany in the mid to late 1890s. One such vase was part of the exhibit at the Museum in Reichenberg (Liberec) at which, in the Summer of 1897, Max von Spaun (Jr) viewed and studied the works by Tiffany. Phänomen Genre glass was introduced by Loetz later that year and began to be marketed in 1898, when this vase was made. Vases like this one made by Loetz, along with others in intricate iridescent decoration, were referred to at the time as "Tiffany-Art" style. Loetz, of course, went on to make their own mark, winning a Grand Prix medal in 1900 at the Exposition Universelle in Paris (right alongside Tiffany). A vase in this decor was gifted to the Austrian museum in Linz, and is marked with the engraved crossed arrows "Spaun" mark. This is a complex piece - the ground is crystal, encasing combed threads of aubergine, green aventurine, and steel gray with four applied "eyes" around the body with a deep blue center, surrounded by green aventurine and a rosa colored aura.

The aubergine threads make it different from the "classic" Pfauenauge vases.
Which is why I had to have it! :)
