At the same thrift-store as I found the carpet sweeper, I found two broken alarm clocks c. 1918 - 1927/1935. The leftmost Westclox has a mechanism that will function with a cleaning and winding keys. Sadly, the bell is missing. The rightmost Big Ben is missing its mechanism all together. But at fifty cents each, I can do something with them.
As you can see, I have a Westclox (centre) from the same line as the poor broken one. Mine is a newer model, a 1928-1929 model I use to wake up on most days. Link below attached to post on it.
It would appear the Big Ben suffered some abuse. Where the only remaining peg-foot is, it's crushed inward as if it had been slammed down too hard. I'm guessing someone who works on clocks had these and used them for parts. Thankfully he left the mechanism in the Westclox America.
Isn't it amazing the difference 90 years had between the two Westcloxs?

These are VERY cool!! I never seem to come across items like these in my thrift stores.

I once said the same concept, and the user told me to keep searching. So, I expanded my territory and found two good ones that usually produce good stuff each week.
