Well, I hd never heard of Sherman jewelry until I started CW and saw all of Phil’s beautiful pieces. I am happy to have been able to finally find a set and got it for a good deal. The earrings are screwbacks-both necklace and earrings are signed.
A very lovely iridescent Sherman set, so reflective, nice post Mrstyndall!

Ken, thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated!
A very nice set to start with and your price was very good considering some of the greediest sellers on ebay right now, especially for necklaces and bracelets. This signature has the Sherman script in an oval and is their first signature style. An old advertisement from 1958 shows a Sherman 2 tier necklace and matching earrings for $10.oo next to diamond and gold cross for 25.00. Sherman intended that his jewellery be seen in the same light as fine pieces and he priced it accordingly. I could tell it was Sherman as soon as I saw the small picture ! Much as Boucher is known for his use of baguette stones, Sherman loved Marquise stones and used them liberally. It is one of the pieces that makes a piece of Sherman Jewellery so identifiable. While most American companies advertised heavily, Sherman did not. The only ads really seen are from the independent jewellers who sold Sherman and particularly in the run up to Christmas when rhinestone jewellery would have been coveted as gifts and as the perfect accompaniment to a New Year's Soiree !~
This necklace probably came out in the very early 1950's to Mid 1950's !
Phil, thanks so much for commenting and providing some info on this set. I agree, it is a nice starter set and hopefully I will be able to acquire some more in the future. I had been wondering about the age of the piece, and you answered that. Appreciate it :)
What an elegant, beautiful set! I enjoyed learning more about Sherman designs, so thank you for that Phil.
