Large and impressive and in wonderful condition! This magnificent antique religious piece make superb devotional as well as decorative accents! A splendid example of the tourist trade micromosaics of the turn of the century
This one is entirely worked into a heavy nickel (or nickel plated) framework, assuring the long long life to the full installation of tiny bits of colored glass tesserae (tiles) with which it is worked. Four Christian style medallions at each of the four points depicting the cross roads of Jesus Christ. The center shows a figural medallion with Christ on the cross a notation above that reads "INRI" which means Jesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum (Jezus of Nazareth, king of Jews. Lovely with colorful flowers in a turquoise mosaic, also implements within the mosaic including holy host with chalice (symbol of Eucharist celebration), bunch of grapes (this symbol refers to the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper and thus to the sacrificial death of Christ.
There are some tiny tarnish or corrosion spots to the surface of the nickel cross framework. Also few missing glass tile tesserae
