This map has the number 268 in the top right hand corner and is, I think, Hand Coloured.
I know nothing about maps I purchased it because I liked it and then It was suggested to me that it is an original page from a book. Any information greatfully received.

What size is it? A photo out of the frame to include the back would also be helpful.

My impression from your one photo is that it is not 18th century.

Hi Scott I would say its A5 unfortunately in removing it from the frame I’ve damaged it . On the reverse their is faint writing which says K/F above PJR DV then 50 and the old sign for shillings Durham Owen and Bowen 1720 any thoughts gratefully received . Elaine

Ouch! Was it glued to the frame backing in that area?

At a minimum you have determined that it is a book page-- pencil writing may provide an ID on the book that it came from.

Hi Scott it was glued by a very thin edge to the backing in the frame and it tore. My fault entirely. The paper feels really old and delicate it seems easily damaged. I have stored it safely and will get it re-framed . My husband loves nauticalia maps and, of course me! So he’ll be happy to see it hanging somewhere in our overcrowded house!

      Here are Plates 269 & 270
"Complete route Whitby to Durham via Guisborough and extending to Sunderland, South Shields, North Shields and Tynemouth."

I would send copies of what you have, with full details, to the Gillmark Gallery, and see what they have to say.

Hi Gillian wow ! Thanks for the info it’s more than I would have been able to track down not knowing where to begin. I love this site because everyone is so very helpful. For me, being an enthusiast, I don’t have much knowledge just entheusiasm!
I am so very miffed with myself for tearing the flipping thing. I think it’s old and very friable and I should have been more careful. I will take your suggestions, act on them and feedback ASAP. As I said in another post, if I don’t respond quickly it’s not that I’m ungrateful, I have Parkinson’s and, on some days, typing is somewhat of a challenge and Siri doesn’t understand my voice ! Thanks so much again and please keep up the advice!

Gillian -eek! I emailed gillmark and Mark was so very helpful. Apparently I’ve suceeded in damaging a bookplate from 1720 , damn and blast! Lesson learned -the hard way - again :)
Thanks so much for your help it’s intersting just to find out about the plate. I paid £1.00 for it last week so no real damage done to my finances. Just the irritation of damaging something old and beautiful !
