Hi everyone! I’ve spent years off and on trying to find out more about this piece. I inherited from my grandmother, and she inherited from her mother, I believe. Back then they were well to do... : )

The frame is metal (cast iron?) the bells look like brass (on either side, at the top. I believe they’re there because the heat of the fire might make them sway? The panels seem to be slate on the back and ceamic on the front. I’ve looked for a stamp or mark, etc. No luck. I’m not sure if the birds and berries are hand painted, but I believe they are. The panels were never used as tea trays, so the painting is in perfect shape. One o& the bells was pinched somehow recently.

I’d love thoughts (or even answers!) from any and all! Thanks! mi

Thanks Anik! Try as I might I can’t find anything similar to it. I’ve searched for a maker - maybe it’s not as old as I thought? I’m very confident it was made before 1913, but I could be mistaken.

Even if I never find out, I love it. At least one of my kids wants it... eventually - that will be its 4th, probably 5th generation to enjoy it!

Extraordinary piece! And fantastic it'll stay in the family to be enjoyed for a long more time :-)

Maybe search for "chinoiserie victorian" as keywords...
