This chair was a Saver's store prize several years ago, for around $10 IIRC. [as soon as I saw the price tag, I literally sat on it until a store employee came by to hold it until I could go fetch a shopping cart and load it up...<lol>]

It is very sturdily constructed of solid maple wood, with a heavy duty steel spring/swivel mechanism and hardware holding its seat to the legs. Its backrest is upholstered in thinly padded dark red vinyl (?, not real leather anyway) with a 'nailhead' back. Depending on how it is adjusted, the seat is roughly 2' from the floor, +/- a few inches either way.

There are no manufacturer's marks on it (that I've ever found, anyway) so I don't have any true idea of who made it, nor exactly when. Based on its heavy construction and general style/appearance, I'm guessing it was intended for duty in some kind of institutional setting, perhaps a school or office environment, and might date from the 1950's/60's.

If anybody recognizes anything about it PLEASE SPEAK UP -- I'd love to learn more about it?!!

      Maybe it's a draftsman's stool.

Its like a lot of office furniture that they even used in gov't offices.
There are lists but I did not take info down to locate.

I agree w/'ya both charcoal and PhilD -- it very much has that 'mid century office' vibe to it...frankly that's what I like so much about it?!! (now, I only wish I had 2 or 3 more...they'd make a *fabulous* looking row of barstools, no?? <lol>)
