I have been wanting a vintage range for some time but it is hard one to fit the small space I have for one. Saw this piece at an antique mall and figured I could make my boring stove look like a vintage one. Not sure what the piece is called but it is the part on the back of the stove. It holds the timer and clock.
This is from Western Holly Range from 1947 according to the site where I found a photo of one. I saw another photo with this piece in white as it is here and the top was red. If I could get one like it I would rip out that cabinet and make it fit. This is porcelain on a fairly heavy gauge steel just like the porcelain signs of which people are so fond. Also used for enamelware and graniteware. Porcelain signs have the advantage of not fading in sunlight.
Anyway I did a cheap cheesy conversion of my boring stove into a cool retro stove kind of.
What a terrific range top, it looks great there & enhances your cool spatter coffee pot & double boiler
That's a really nice one!! My 86 year old mother has told us several times about the time that her mother (my Grandmother) got her first gas range and no longer had to fire up the wood fired cook stove every morning. I can only imagine what a great day that was for her!!
I love it! I love the enamelware, too. And that clock encased in the yellow (metal?)

What a creative 're-purpose' for what'd otherwise only be an orphaned part of a junked range!! Its too bad that one of the little chrome trim bits is missing, that's probably nearly an unobtanium part. :-( Was there once a light fixture inside the middle of it (parts still there??) and/or is its clock electrical or mechanical? If mine, I'd be wanting to think about making either/both of those 'work' again, if possible...??
Well, yellow was a good choice. It's unique looking!
Thank you very much AnythingObscure. Don't let it get out that I have re-purposed something. Not sure if there was a light. Yes the clock is electric. It seems to also be a timer which is a bit complex for me to fix. The electric cord was still attached but in very poor shape.

I like your little renovation there! I used to have a 1920's- 1930's Wedgewood, black and white. The legs were black. It was a beauty and I miss it so. Mine had the porcelain inserts (?) for the shakers to rest in and the light that comes up and over. When I sold it, for some reason those parts were not in with the stove and I actually still have them. I tried to find the buyer but never could. haha I just noticed I'm speaking of the stove as if I still had it! Loved that thing. I think the only downfall to it was that it got very hot on the outside of it while cooking but I did a vigilant job of keeping my kids away from it...except the time when my son turned on a burner when the lid was down. No real damage just a mark was left on the lid forever! I don't even have a decent photo of it! Oh well, I hope you find the one you are looking for!!!
Thank you very much shareurpassion. Sorry to hear you sold your Wedgewood. I have seen some on Craigslist but they don't fit the space. I will probably have to tear out the cabinet. Then I can put my smaller metal cabinet in the space and it will be all good for a new vintage stove.
