Ornate wood front barrel top Doll Trunk. 18" L x 12" H x 11" D. Probably early 20th century. I really thought the deep wood pattern was unique. Complete interior lid but no tray. Not sure if the handles are original. Simple tin details. The body wood looks to be oak or veneered oak.

Bit of a mystery trunk to me, the inside appears to be original, obviously the outside has been refinished, but to what extent, the hardware has been painted, top of the trunk is plywood and looks original, the rest of the wood does look like oak, I personally have never seen an old trunk body made of oak, oak was expensive and usually reserved for fine furniture, the ornate basket weave, I think was added by someone, like I said, a mystery, but I like it, greendog.

The basket weave was my main thought at first that it is not original. but The inside back of the front paper on it shows no signs of body manipulation and the wood itself is on 1/2" thick to start.

The wood body is 1/4" sorry, not 1/2" all sides leaving no room for add on after the fact. With the paper being undisturbed clearly shows it was how it was originally done.

Yeah, like I said, kind of a mystery, you can't really say, always and never in the world of trunks but, trunks weren't usually made with bare wood left exposed, trunks from the 1800's were covered with, paper, canvas, tin, leather or hardwood slats, something, but that's the mystery, and something will never know for sure.

Yes a mystery, lending itself to being unique..lol thus the only reason I have it. Thanks for the notes and thoughts, always fun and always appreciated !!
