When you collect art glass, baskets invariably become part of the whole glorious escapade...yet they can be challenging to display, take up more space than vases, & are a perfect nightmare when waiting for one to arrive in the post. Yet, I cannot help gathering them (although many have been deaccessioned - numerous Fenton, Murano, & Tango glass baskets have flown the coop to find new homes) simply because they are fabulous.
So, here are the baskets that survived the great purge of 2015 - 2016...
Photo 1 shows two examples of Peloton, one satin, one glossy, Northwood pull - up pattern by Stevens & Williams, various applied fruit & flowers, & a ruby epergne basket that has lost its epergne.
Photo 2 includes the largest basket in my collection, a 30 cm (12 inches) pink & uranium ivory behemoth, as well as a rare example of pink Peloton glass, rainbow spangle, spatter, & what I believe to be an example of John Walsh Walsh's Electric Blue in reverse (with all the wonderful bumps & bamboo handle).
Photo 3 is almost all Bohemian - three spatter baskets most likely by Welz, green Kralik overshot with a red flower, custard rose bowl basket with a pink flower, Harrach uranium lattice with flowers, leaf - form opalescent uranium cased in oxblood (if anyone knows who made it your thoughts are welcomed) & the sole English representative is the wee uranium opalescent one in front - it is part of a hanging basket on stand set that is sadly adrift because of the wonderful thorny stand being broken in the mail due to inadequate packaging). I think that was either by Richardson or Walsh Walsh. Perhaps one day I'll find a suitable stand for it...

What a fine collection of baskets.......beautiful and diverse. I share your views on baskets/space and now I too only buy the rarer ones! I was particularly pleased to see the Harrach trellis basket as I trust your attribution and it confirms a couple of things for me....thanks.

Yes, baskets are so tempting but difficult to manage too...when I see one it tugs at my heartstrings but I have to try to be sensible...Happy also to help with the Harrach piece, glad it has solved something for you. I have a pair of vases in the same pattern that have been confidently attributed to Harrach, & the basket fits the bill nicely.

Thanks also, Justanovice...yes the Harrach one is a favourite. I had to direct the seller how to package it, as she had never sent any glass before. But thankfully my instructions were followed to the letter!

How lovely to see so many together! Baskets are something I don't get often, at present I have none. It's not because I don't like or avoid them, just for some reason they don't come my way. I love the one on the left of the first picture, is that by Northwood or S&W?

Thanks so much, Vintagefran...for some reason I am a basket - magnet, & I hope some nice baskets come your way soon...the one on the left is by S&W with the pattern being known popularly as the Northwood pull - up after the designer/artistic manager John Northwood, who created many innovative techniques for the company, as well as starting the revival of cameo glass with his reproduction of the Portland Vase.

The one in the third photo, the lattice with the wee pink flowers, that's the one for me. They are all lovely!

Many thanks, katherinescollections - & that one is by Harrach...
