I found this little beauty yesterday at an estate sale. It looked rather different then: It was very dirty and was stuffed with some kind of chicken wire. It looked really sad. I didn't know what it was but realized that it was handmade. It had the great amount of $1 on it so I decided to take my chances. It took me some time to get the wire out and clean it up. This task was rather difficult because the openings are too small to allow your hand or fingers to pass through. But I managed and here it is:
I believe my object is a antique or vintage bride's bank. In late Victorian times to the beginning of the 1900's, these baskets are said to have been used to collect money for the brides. Many bride's banks were shaped like a crown. After the wedding, these bride's banks were used for flower arrangements.
My bride's bank is about 5" by 6" and has a lovely green colour. There are some gold specs, too. If you look closely at the last photo, you might be able to see it.
My bank has a polished pontil.
I am not sure where this bride's bank was made. I read that they were made in the states but also in Bohemia. I really don't know how to figure out the difference.

This is in the Butler Brothers catalog for the year 1932. These translucent and diamond optic textures were made by Kralik, in shades of amber, pink, and green. I have the same glass piece you have in amber. Lovely to see in another color.
Ms.CrystalShip, thanks so much for your wonderful comment. It appears that I was slightly off on my dating, but it is still a well-loved and well-kept item. I agree, I should have taken a picture how it looked before. The thing is, my husband doesn't like me to bring any dirt into the house (but he is rather supportive with my collecting of old stuff,so I don't complain). I wash and wipe everything right away. And yes: I learnt something too:)
Truthordare, thanks so much for your help! When I searched for information about my item, I came across some banks in clear glass but with a very similar shape and they were listed as "Kralik", too. I didn't see any in amber, pink, or green other than with a part of a different colour applied to the clear glass. It appears to me that the world of vintage and antique glass is a mystery to me! For this reason, I really appreciate your information even more! It is not the first time that I hear a reference to the Butler Brothers catalog. It must be an incredible source of information! BTW, I would love to see your bride's basket:)

Thank you Gudrun, I'm glad I could provide some information. Here is a link to mine. You are right about others with a combination of 2 glass colors, but they have a different shape and surface.
