This piece is signed - looks like 'CHABA' and maybe 'Mexico, DF', but i'm really not sure at all on any of the letters. It has some age and i think it is Majolica. any info greatly appreciated! also - that tail hole - is it a bottle maybe and the stopper had a tail on it? This piece is a real puzzler! it's about 8 inches long.

He's such a handsome big cat, lovely piece. I agree the tail hole had a purpose, could have been a bottle stopper but looks fine without it

What a sweet face and an unusual piece, too!

Lovely kitty! For some reason, my gut is telling me that this is Russian. The glaze and spotting remind me of the Lomonosov animal figurines. But, your cutie is not as detailed in the face as the Lomonsov figurines I've seen. The eagle mark is/was used by some Russian ceramics makers (as, of course, many other makers around the world.). Also, the first two letters look like they could be Cyrillic - what I would describe as a letter "C" and an upside down "N."

Just a few thoughts from a non-expert who does not speak Russian, because I'm intrigued by who might have made this cutie! :-)

i think you may be right Poire, but how would i search for that?

ho2cultcha, I wish I could help you more! But, I wasn't able to get any further than my suggestions! Oh, I wish I had all the answers. It is nice to know, though, that you don't disagree with my gut instinct! I will keep looking!
