Hello everyone!!
Today, we have an antique Victorian era bronze hare match stick holder. As you will see, in pic #4, there is a slot on the side of the little holder with a replaceable striker pad. It's rather small. The detail of the hare is remarkable. The match holder is 1" long and 1/2" wide. The entire piece measures 3 3/4" tall and the base is 2 3/4" in diameter. This piece is from the 1850's and during the Victorian era, thru the early 1900's, it was customary to keep a match stick holder in your home for visitors to light their cigar or pipe. Consider it the table lighter of yesteryear.
Thanks to you all for stopping in for a look!!

He's a handsome little fella, the design looks to me like he popped out of a magician's box! Toothpick holder is a good guess. Love your creative hares Scott
My thought at first was a matchstick holder, but then it should have a striker ? I think toothpick holder too and what a marvelous piece it is ! :)
