It was love at first sight when I came across this piece. The center stone is, of course, the focal point with purple, lilac, and a few AB navettes and chatons. The back is rhodium plated and signed.
Seriously, if you look into the center stone, it's like you could fall right into it. I always thought Swarovski crystals were all alike. I was wrong... The ones procured by Gustave Sherman were/are of the highest I right Phil?

I bow down, you are right. This is a fantastic piece I am not familiar with at this moment !! It looks like there are purple and ab stones and some that look here like alexandrite !! Its an earlier piece of Sherman, probably just when they started making alexandrite stones, spectacular post.

Thanks Bonnie...The finder of all great things! :)

Jenni..always there with a delightful comment. I know nothing of Sherman. But thanks
to Phil and his incredible collection I'm starting to learn...

Caperkid, Mani, MrsT. Gillian & Mary...your sincere comments mean the world to me. Thank you!!

Phil..So I did good? When you recieve a compliment from an experienced expert in the designer of a piece you pick up, you can ask for nothing better!! So this was made in the
50's? Maybe? I don't believe it was ever worn or it was taken very good care of...Not a hint of
      wear anywhere.

      Ken..Thank you, my friend...
It is pretty, isn't it? :)

      Judy,Tigra, Scott & Adele...
      Thank you for the loves...dears!

Sherman used double and triple rhodium plating at times. Overall the rhodium plating lasts a long time on most sherman pieces.

      Awe Ken...
What a considerate friend you are...
It doen't matter dear.I show my pieces for their beauty and to help others in identifying certain aspects of makers, and to learn from others, ( in this case Phil!). As long as I hear from my wonderful friends here on CW, that's enough for me.Once there was a invisibly set red and white crystal brooch from Trifari...a very rare, beautiful & expensive piece and it recieved 7 loves :( I just didn't understand...

One of my friends is much more familiar with this brooch. Am I right that some of the marquise stones are alexandrite ?? They look to be, but almost impossible to be sure from the photo.

Eileen - do you wear this to the grocery store? What the heck - why not!! Lots of great comments from friends!!

I do believe you are right Phil. Like I said, the seller described them as "lilac with color changing aspects". To be honest, I paid it no mind until you noticed!
      Thank you, my friend!

The signature in an oval tells that it is Sherman's earliest signature, if it was in a rectangle it would be later.

Yay, so good to hear from you Phil!

Lovely piece! The combination of lavender/alexandrite and clear AB is enchanting.

One thing, I think this brooch is from the 1960s. When you click on the photo of the back and view the larger photo, you can see that the cartouche (the little plate on which the 'Sherman' name is inscribed) is actually rectangular. It just appears to be oval (1950s) at first glance because it's set on an oval-shaped piece of backing. To my understanding, that dates this brooch a little later than first thought.

I believe you are right, rhineisfine! Two years ago I was just learning about Sherman, and ALEXANDRITE! The rectangle cartouche is definitely from the 60’s. Thank you for pointing this out! Phil is the man, he is the one who taught me about alexandrite stones, so I started collecting the Kramer collection. Once agin, thank you for correcting the info. There is quite a bit of misleading info here, but I just keep quiet as some, one in particular, takes it personal. That shouldn’t be, we are here to love and learn....
