My family has had this small, carved horse for many years but I know nothing about it. I’m not even sure if it’s actual redwood, but I know that was commonly used in Native American carvings. All that the tag says on the bottom is “Tisinger’s Imports, San Simeon”, but there are no results when I search for that. Can anyone help tell me more about this horse? Thanks!

Is it possible that this is an example of German “Black Forest” style figurines?

What a beautiful red wood horse figurine! I love animal shaped pieces and this one is a special beauty. It could be made from California redwood, as I believe San Simeon is a town in CA - someone here should know more. Lovely post, thank you for sharing

Thank you for the nice compliments! I remember being pretty little and always wanting to play with it, so it’s for sure at least 40 years old. Dang, had to date myself there! Ha. And now MY little guy wants to play with it also, but it’s kept nicely out of toddler reach. Lol. No kid can resist a toy horse!

Well as it turns out, this is actually a Chinese hand-carved Rosewood horse figurine. The key detail was the glass eyes. Probably made in the late ‘50s to mid-‘60s, as they were really popular around then. It was an import item, which lends credence to the shop tag on the bottom. Thanks for everyone’s input!
