    Appears to be a copper pot inside a heavy metal shell. It was in the garden of the house I bought a few years ago, in the tropics in Australia.

      Welcome to CW inOZ ! :^D It would help to know the size of this, but I think it's a planter, made out of repurposed parts! :^)

      The bottom 1/2 looks like the bottom of a wood stove....

      Thanks Billretirecoll & Windwalker. It's roughly 2 feet in diameter. Unfortunately I can't take a precise measurement - someone took it without my permission!
