In the Asian culture, especially China and Japan, their yearly astrology signs and symbols are important factors in their day to day lives. A boy born in the year of the dragon for instance is highly auspicious, and points to a life with great opportunities and success.

Each year also has an element attached to it, for instance the 12 years between 1942 and 1953 are metal, which gives the people born then a strength of character, that the people born with the element wood, years 1929 to 1941 wont have, instead they will be considered good versatile companions.

We used to have a lot of fun with our Western Zodiac signs of each month, lots of books were published about this topic, now it seems a little silly. Yet, newspapers still carry daily horoscopes today in spite of that.

This okimono (Japanese table decorative item) measures 5 inches by 6 inches, it was bought as vintage from Japan. Not marked, and has slight erosion of the cast iron base.

Good Morning Thomas, yes we are praying, more worried about those 2000 kids than anything else 45 can trow at us.

There is always something very appealing about Japanese astrological sculptures as this one displays so well.
Truthordare, our own government here has and is mistreating refugees, but I am still horrified and distraught about those poor children. What is becoming of our civilization?

These are scary times racer, for many of our countries. Seems like we have crossed the line somewhere, and we are back in the extreme right political swamp. Thank you for the nice comment. That is one thing that will not change our appreciation for craftsmanship and artistry. :-)
