Here's one of the "flat soldier" playsets adveritised in comic books in the 60's. This is the 150 Civil War Soldier set. The advertisement shown is the back of the DC comic book "Our Fighting Forces" May/ 1962 issue # 68. The manufacturer is the Josely Co. Not much is known about the actual manufacturer, these were P.O. Box addresses. The sets are 2 dimensional, brittle and cheaply made. The same pieces were molded in blue or gray to make up the armies. The only exceptions are the ironclads USS Monitor and CSS Virginia(formerly USS Merrimac) being different molds. The prize in this set is the mostly intact shipping box. These are incredibly rare, this is the only one I've ever seen. Thanks for looking.

Great the way you have the North and South soldiers & their equipment facing each other ready for battle, my brothers had so much fun with toy soldiers

I loved soldier playsets as a kid in the 60's, especially the Marx ones. Had a great blue/gray playset with the litho mansion. I still love my toys over 50 years later.

I've seen some of Ftapaches items. They're incredible! I'm amazed how many things there are and the condition they're in. I should have joined this group years ago. I spend hours gawking and drooling over the things I see. Great folks here, that are kindred spirits.

I recently found a partial set of these in my parent's basement mixed in with some other toys. Would a partial set have any value? I certainly dont have box or an immaculate set as above.

Noremj, it varies on price. The more present and condition increases value proportionally. Prices are all over the place on the different types of set, the Roman and Revolutionary sets are harder to find and are sought by collectors. You can somewhat gauge prices on Ebay by what they actually sell for not necessarily what they're asking. It's kind of a niche collecting field.
