Found this pretty red bakelite bangle in Austin, TX last week for $1. It is probably a 1970's Avon bangle, which were sold as a set of 3: red, yellow and green. Looks great with my collection of marbled tube bangles.....they make great starter bakelite items. :-)

Beautiful color bangles, all so pretty, and the driftwood makes a great background for them

Thanks Jenni - I've found these bangles one by one. Generally $8-$18 online and more if they're in the original Avon box. I thought they were 1950's but learned they are '70s. Pretty fun! That piece of driftwood came from a thrift store - ha ha!

Those bangles are so great! I know someday I will do a deeper dive into Bakelite when the budget permits. :) Great find!

Andrea - I found 2 for .50 last summer and the red one was $1. These are great starter bakelite. What to look for: no seams, rich consistent color, rub it for a chemical smell, then do a bakelite test...my preferred is Simichrome w/q-tip that turns yellow. There are other tests too. If you're at a store the "no seams, and chemical smell" are quick.
