Newest online purchase is this yummy 1" goldenrod carved bakelite bangle. Yes, darker than butterscotch and both colors started life as white in the 1930's or 40's. It's a bit scratched, hand carved - well loved and worn, but no chips. Looks nice with some of my other swirly brown and butterscotch items. It was very dirty so I used my Novus plastic clear liquid polish on a dry toothbrush. I clean the inside with simichrome mainly because I like paste cleaners - but not in the carving grooves. :-) Same favorite etsy seller. This was $8.

Lots of nice detail!
Thank you Tigra for first love and all the loves you've given on my posts and collections. Ask questions and please give comments, Just say "what is this?" "why is this great?" "is this a bunch of crap?" I'll answer.
Mrs T - thank you for your comment! always nice to hear from you.
I went on a spree on your posting, I do that now and then as I am rather new to the site and I missed a lot of the nice posts!
I actually had a question which is rather general than specific to a post...did you come across bright yellow Bakelite?
Beautiful bangles Mary, they look so fine together with those lovely earth tones, enjoy wearing them - you did a great clean up they're gorgeous
The carved detail is so beautiful, the jealousy goes wild seeing collections like this !~
I forgot to mention last night, I will try to be more forthcoming with the comments. Most of the time, I don't feel I have much to add to the conversation, in any case, I like the jewelry quite a lot. And as a bonus, I am learning a lot too!
Intresting name..like the flower! Great price you got!!
Thomas.
Very pretty bangles!
Tigra - yes, I have posted some bright yellow bakelite. they also started life as white. The difference? Maybe they were kept inside drawers or jewelry boxes at "constant temperatures" (what does that mean to someone who lives in Florida??) I think this bangle lived "outside" all its long life. Yes, this is an excellent site for learning about jewelry. I learn SO much and love the stories. -)
Jenni - thanks friend, it cleaned up nicely but took a little while, so wanted to share that if anyone wonders how to clean old plastic safely. I love earth tones! XOXO Mary
Phil - now you know how I feel about YOUR collections! I appreciate you enjoying my humble plastic fantastics!
Thomas - yes like the flower or the photo to press color separation paper....heck, I'm pretty sure that process isn't used anymore.
Thanks friends for your loves of old plastic: Fort, Judy, Hel1, Ken, Aura, AnythingO, Mani, Raven and Gillian :-)
Mary, your marvelous Bakelite collection just keeps growing!
Down the road from me there's a town called Cambria, and it's a tourist trap with antique stores up and down one street. One store you walk in and on the right wall, the entire right wall, encased, is BAKELITE. Every color in the rainbow and the prices!' What I'm getting at?
They can't even come close to your lovely collection!! I never knew til you told me bakelite changes color over the years! It's true, we learn something new every day.
And Tigra, say whatever comes to mind, we are all friends here!!
Thanks Eileen for your loving post about my collections and Cambria's shops. I haven't visited but want to, and will now that you told me !! I am sure they have great bakelite and are selling! I have so much fun bakelite, but I am not selling yet - that is the difference. Some day I will have to sell.
thanks worthitz2 for your comment :-)
Hi doll! These are all great. I do think I love the carved ones most and I agree with you about the earth tones, mix and match all day long...into the night!
Very nice bangles Mary! I like that brown color a lot. They also look great together with the black. Elegant. I bet one brown bangle would also look nice against denim/blue clothes? Thanks for your always interesting posts. Have a nice day my friend.
Thank you Share! Carved are my faves! I was on vacation last wk and found a thin black bracelet for $1. Also a celluloid bracelet w aqua rhinestones $1. With missing stones, but I might have replacements in the stash...
Thx Elisabeth - love these earthtones too...yes look good w black or denim. Xoxo
Thank you friends for the loves.
These days, I miss many of the new postings and comments because I am not receiving anymore e-mails from CW - non at all! Am I the only one? I love your petrified stone jewelry and your new addition to your Bakelite collection but I totally missed them!
I realize these go for big bucks. I remember one Calgary show a girl called Sharon had found a beauty of a green bakelite bracelet that was quite substantial and that was a time I knew nothing about costume of any kind.
Thanks Phil for commenting. This isn't my best carved bakelite - it's lovely, but my best is this red one. I'm afraid to wear it, that I might chip it more - how dumb is that?! I should just enjoy it.
