This rare Australian fireworks advertising poster dates from the 1960s, & was a find I made some years ago in a country antiques shop while on a holiday. I had seen it on a previous occasion, but the price had been halved since then, so I jumped. I have some other vintage fireworks advertising posters from India, which I will have to get around to posting someday.
Great vintage fireworks poster, as a kid I remember the rocket on a stick type, sparklers, and packet of blast off bullet type firecrackers we called a "mat." This is a super post for our 4th of July aka Independence Day holiday, thanks!
Many thanks, Newfld! Glad that you're enjoying it & that's it's sparked some memories. We had fireworks here for the Queen's Birthday long weekend (which was 2 weeks ago) until 1986. In a couple of states here you can still buy fireworks but not in the one where I live.
What a great poster IronLace! Loved "cracker night" when I was a kid! Was in May from memory.......The whole family would gather together around the bonfire and the adults would light the fireworks and depended on our ages as to whether we were allowed to help or not, or we just watched lol.....some great memories here:-)
Yes, I totally agreee, Tassie Devil, Cracker Night was a magical time...for me, it reminds me of how my dad & I would put on the display each year. For weeks beforehand, I raked leaves & gathered branches to build the bonfire. Then, the fireworks would show up for sale, under the glass counter of the local milk bar, & on the shelves at the newsagent's & grocery store. My dad showed me how to light the fireworks safely, & I organised them in different places in the backyard...Catherine Wheels nailed to the paling fence, spinners on strings hanging from the clothesline, Crazy Jacks & Throwdowns on the concrete path, etc. We set up galvanised buckets of soil to set the bigger ones in, against the backdrop of the bonfire. I also loved the designs of firework labels, & after the night, I'd go around the parks & pick up the spent ones...one of my earlier collections. It was so sad when they were banned.
