Found this at a flea market. Can any one tell me about how old it is. Person I bought it from said it belonged to a family who's ancestors used it to come to USA.

Ok sah0917, people will tell you anything to make a sale, not saying he was lying, because it appears to be an Immigrant trunk, but without proof you have to take what someone tells you with a grain of salt, as the saying go's. The trunk has been refinished, metal painted black, handles may or may not be original, corner metal may have been added at a later time, usually when I look at an Immigrant trunk, I look at corners, are they hand cut dovetail or simply lap corners, I can't see yours, I look at the metal on the trunk, are the handles, hinges, lock, and sometimes metal bands hand wrought iron, hand made, I also look at the lid is it secured with wood dowel pegs or nails of some kind, these are all indicators of age. your handles appear to be cast and look very clean and smooth witch tells me they are newer rather then older, can you show pictures of the inside and pictures of the hinges this may help me, it appears to be old, but how old is the question, more pictures please, greendog.
