In the year 2001, my wonderful Mother left behind many treasures for me to pass down. Some things were her own and some belonged to my Grandmother and also her Mother. There are more than a few items, that I found very interesting. The first, belonged to my Grandmother and is of the Holy Mother, Mary. It is a small, but very heavy statue for it's size, measuring only 5" 3/4 in. x 2" 1/2 in. and I would have to say that this Statue has the most beautiful face of Mary, that I have ever seen. Considdering the age, if it were to have a hue of patina, as it does - with just a hint of light green, I would think it would have quite a bit more than it does. While taking pictures, there were some 'Miraculous' colors that came out and that are not visilbe with the naked eye! Perhaps it was the lighting? I will post a couple of them at the begining of the continuing segment of 2 other items, those not religious in nature.

The second item is a Medal of the Immaculate Conception — popularly known as the Miraculous Medal. As you can see, it is so very, very tiny and with the tarnish that silver collects over the years, I am not able to make out what it says on the front of the medalion. However, I was able to see the back pretty well. It has 12 stars in a circle around a cross, an M which is the initial for Mary, with the two symbols beneath the M being the Sun and the Moon. Also, another interesting point this medal has, is an abbreviation stamped at the top of the round part at the base of the pin assembly, which says: PAT. with the bottom showing a number of 2066969. The Patent No. was registered in 1937 by Frank Farnham. It belongs to his invention for the C Clasp Safety Lock. Wow, who knew?

The third item is of a Medallion that has an interesting twist of wire affixed to it. If wires could talk! Oh Wait, thats walls...N/M Anyway I am not sure which is the front or back sides so I will describe the two sides. Number 1 side, is of Mary's Mother, Saint Anne. She is dressed in beautiful period clothing and is holding the Christ Child, her Grandson. Around the border there are raised lettering that says: Borrne Ste Anne De Beaupre Prni. From Wikipedia info states, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a town in Quebec, Canada. On side 2 there is a picture of a church which is said to be the first church that was built by sailors who would often become ship-wrecked off Ile-Oeuf on their way to Quebec City. Saint Anne is the patron saint of sailors. This is a bit confusing to me since under the picture of the Church it says FRANCE. I know my Great Grandparents and those before were from France and England, which I am somewhere in there suppose to be directly related to King Charlemange. I was also told one of my Great, Great Uncles (I have no clue how many Greats) was one of the Popes to the Catholic Church.

Just a small comment re: your third paragraph. The inscription on the medal actually says BASILIQUE [basilica] STE ANNE DE BEAUPRE. It is indeed the name of a place in Quebec; it is known for its grand basilica dedicated to St. Anne, mother of Mary.

Your medal is stamped at the bottom with 'FRANCE' because, as is often the case, that is where the medal was produced. But the shrine itself is very definitely in Canada, and is one of two major pilgrimage places for devotees of St. Anne. (The second is Ste-Anne-d'Auray in Brittany, France.)
