Anton Robert Leinweber , Czech Robert Antonín Leinweber (born February 7, 1845 in Bohemian Leipa , Kingdom of Bohemia , died December 21, 1921 in Munich ), was a German painter and illustrator of Czech descent.
He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and spent many years in North Africa, especially in Tunisia. He created together with Philip Grot Johann and Hermann Vogel illustrations to the children and house fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm . Leinweber also created numerous Bible illustrations such as this one of Genesis 27, David and Goliath etc.
This is beautifully done in silk on linen I think and measures approximately 27.25" x 50.25" (visible through glass) but folded in the back as shown in the photos. One of the corners has written " Jsaak segnet Jakob" (which translates as Isaac blesses Jacob) along with some other inscription which is gone with the fraying. The remnant looks like an English Pound sign and the number 2. I managed to locate this postcard posted here on a German website for sale and have purchased it to keep with this masterpiece.
