While waiting for some friends to get home, I took a walk in their neighborhood. I think the next day was refuse pickup day. I found this in someone's garbage while on my walk. I thought it was just too nice to go to the trash dump. It is pottery about 7" high and 7" in diameter. It looks like part of a lamp, but not sure if there were other pottery components or not since I found it like you see it. For the past 15-20 years, I've just displayed it as an art piece on a carved wooden stand. It has value to me as both a piece of art and a memory piece commemorating my visit to my friends' home. I am guessing it is American pottery, but maybe one of the pottery experts on CW can tell me more about it. I may someday turn it back into a lamp, though I have recently acquired a Stiffel brass lamp fetish.

      I’d agree USA - likely circa the 1940s t0 early 50s.

Can you tell if the clay itself is tinted yellow with a clear overglaze or is it a white/buff clay with colored glaze?

Thanks art.pottery! It appears to be white clay with a colored glaze.

Hi, kwqd. I posted a item similar to yours a few weeks ago and the members here were great and identified my piece as Consolidated Glass line 700 Fairy Martele. My item is in my list, if you get a chance take a look same type of glass design. Only difference I don’t have a small hole on one side. Good look.

Thanks, Sylvester22! Yeah, this pottery piece is a dead ringer for the Consolidated Phoenix 700 line vases. Guessing it may have been made by Muncie Pottery as there seems to have been some sort of relationship between the two companies. I sent an email to the president of the Phoenix Consolidated Collectors Society to see what I can find out.

I found numerous examples of pottery lamp bases made by Muncie Pottery on ebay. This company was only in existence from 1931-1939 and was a very small company.

Indianabottlecollector inspired me to go back and see if I had posted any of my trash finds on CW and I noticed a love I had failed to acknowledge.

So, thanks for loving my Muncie lamp base, AnnaB!

Would that I could find such a trashy piece! Looked up Muncie, and spent some time looking at their "stuff". I really like the colour of yours, also glad that you made it into a display piece.

Thanks for your comment, Gillian! I was doubly lucky on this one. Lucky to have passed by that particular trash pile and lucky that this piece survived it's journey. I see it every morning and evening since it sits on my kitchen counter, above my cat's food storage container.
