These vases appear to be blown glass and measure about 12.5" high x 7.5" wide x 5.5" deep. They were found together, but are slightly different in color, one more ivory and the other more peach. They were $3 each at a thrift shop in Central IL. These vases are often attributed to Scailmont or some mystery 1930s Art Deco maker, but I found one new in the box and they are made by Anchor Hocking, probably in the 1970s or 1980s. I think they are cased glass, with a thick layer of clear glass surrounding a very thin layer of colored glass. The interior is very smooth and "glassy", so I don't think the interiors are painted. It is interesting to note that Anchor Hocking owned Phoenix Glass in the 1970s, so maybe this was a Phoenix design which might explain why it is so different from the normal Anchor Hocking designs and generated so much mystery. They were made in at least two heights 12.5" and 9.5" and a wide range of colors red, peach, green, purple and even crystal or amber crystal. The comments below show some of this swirl around these vases.

Found four more of these. Three in Seattle, the UK and Denmark, all claimed to be of Belgian origin and made in the 1920s-1930s. One in Iowa claimed to be made in the 1980s. "Art Deco ribbed" seems to be the magic search word combination. These are going for crazy prices, so it is odd that I can find NO documentation about them.

Also found in blue, pink, yellow, red, peach and white. Mostly found in Europe, but also in the US.

I heard from the ebay seller in the Netherlands. Their vases were purchased in Belgium from a seller who identified them as the work of Scailmont Glassworks. The seller also says "When those vases appear on the market in The Netherlands, they are known as Scailmont vases."

I found another vase in clear glass. I think these vases may be clear glass with a layer of colored material applied and then another thin layer of clear glass applied to seal them. Just a guess. Not going to scratch my vases to confirm as they are mint..

Glad you found some info regarding these Kevin. They are a lovely lot of glass, very art deco style.

Great pic from the top! Looks like the opening shot of the movie Goldfinger.

Thanks, racer4four! I am still digging for more information. An image in a catalog would be nice!

Thanks Pickaboo! Gotta love blown glass, everything is mirrored on the inside of the piece!

Thanks for loving my Scailmont vases! I actually spotted these several days before buying them. I thought they were "good stuff" but couldn't find any information about them. They sat in the shop for at least a week until I went back and bought them.

Thanks for your comment careerdrinkr. I am still no closer to having definitive proof that these vases are by Scailmont Glassworks, but the available evidence is leaning in that direction.

I found one of these on ebay and the seller identified it as being made by Anchor Hocking. I contacted the seller to ask how they made this identification and they told me that they had also had one "new in the box". I've sent them a follow up email asking if they took pictures they can share. Tentatively identifying these as made Anchor Hocking with a ? until I can get images. I've also added a smaller vase in red to my pile.

BTW, I've noticed that numerous Anchor Hocking vases have the "circle" on the bottom, but not sure if that is unique to AH and could be a tell for other mystery glass. Still haven't been able to find out how the circle is created....

I have been scouring for info on these since I saw a set of green vases like this that I believe were then made into lamps, but not sure they could've always been lamps. I would love to know more as anyone finds out!

I never heard back from the ebay seller who had one of these new in the box, regarding whether or not she had images of the box. Leaning toward accepting her attribution, anyway.

Thanks for loving my probably Anchor Hocking drape vase thenameisagent and
