    This is my oldest pipe and was made in the 19th century. The carving on this one is exquisite. I have not found much information on these antique "Three Star" meerschaums and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information about the maker. I used to smoke a pipe and like art so like artsy pipes and kept them after I stopped smoking. My preference was meerschaum, but I have a few briars, too. This one I inherited from my aunt. It belonged to my uncle who died in 1968. I am responsible for only a part of the coloring of this pipe. It must have been one of my uncle's favorite pipes. It was one of my favorites to smoke when I still smoked.

      @Johnsmith - Thanks!

      @PhilDMorris - Nice,new hand carved pipes are still coming out of Turkey. You can get a decent pipe for about $75-$300 depending on the level of detail you want in the carving. There are many on line stores and many on ebay. Never too late to start a collection.

      Thanks for your comments Johnsmith and PhilDMorris! I think that this pipe has the highest quality carving of all of my pipes. I think it dates from the second half of the 1800s.

      Thanks for loving my Three Star meerschaum pipe!

      Thanks, mikelv85! Not sure who it is meant to depict. Probably a well known figure from the middle ages. It belonged to my uncle.

      Thanks for your comments, dav2no1! I did a little research. See below!

      Thanks for your comments, Falcon61! It would wouldn't it!

      I never did any serious research on this pipe's subject before, but starting now... The collar he is wearing is a type of ruff or ruffled collar called a "millstone" collar used from about 1600-1650. Ruff collars were popular from about 1550-1660. Berets were popular during that time, too. Kind of looks like Emperor Charles V.
