    (371 items)

What kind of wacky world was it long ago
Giant hares playing a hard boiled egg like a drum
    Happy new year 1908
If you read the back of the card
It’s sent from horseshoe North Carolina to
Ponchatoula Louisiana ,,,Writer refers to it “in this country”
I know it’s 52 years from the Civil War in 1908,,but still.....
Still thought of it as a different country north and south

Vynil33rpm, Love that egg drum. :-)

I don't know that the writer was necessarily thinking about the U.S. South as a separate country when they inscribed this card, but you're probably right in that many citizens, particularly Southerners in 1908, indeed still thought of it as a separate country.

North Carolina did secede from the Union, and join the Confederacy (and indeed to my little Yankee self always seemed Southern), but there's always been internecine squabbles.

I once had a coworker from North Carolina who told me that Virginians tended to be pretty up themselves. };-)
