Here is a 2x2" ruby throated hummingbird with red, light green & white crystal AB rhinestones and one blue eye, on goldtone. By Pell (founded in NY 1941) ca 1950s

Scott, the hummingbirds fly so fast I think I'm always missing them, I have to see these beauties on TV nature shows to see how lovely they are - the iridescent bodies are really gorgeous. Thanx for the kind compliment
Right Karen, they are really tiny birds and they only take nectar from those deep bell shaped flowers, I love when they slow motion the wings on film then I can really SEE them lol - great compliment, thanks
Thank you Lauren, like you I don't recall ever seeing one in person, though I'm told we have them where I live. People put out these sugar feeders to attract them, which I won't do as I'm rather scared of attracting bugs (flies, bees etc), but I might find out about planting those trumpet flowers they love

We have tons ( well, maybe not tons) but lots of hummingbirds where I live
My daughter has 5 beautiful glass feeders, and they "buzz" around all day. The colored glass of the feeders attract them more than the plain plastic ones.
Anyhoo... Back to this gorgeous brooch! Once again you delite us with a pristine figural which is decades old yet looks brand new. How, oh how, do you do it? I just sent back a brooch that the seller claimed "excellent"...upon inspection--- scratched and chipped :(

Wow Eileen your daughter must get to see an abundance of gorgeous hummers, I do know the glass feeders are prettier than the plastic, guess the birds think so too lol. Except for the rare foray into antique or vintage shops, and the occasional vintage jewelry kiosk shop at the malls, most of my jewelry is undoubtedly from the same popular websites we all browse, I just try to look for variety of pieces (mostly animal figurals as you can tell!) and different vintage designers, except as discussed, the really antique precious stuff is rather cost prohibitive for me. Thank you for always the sweetest, kindest & most supportive compliments/comments and love!

lovely! reminds me of a beautiful poem i read years ago which compared the hummingbird to 'a fist raised high and threatening nothing'.
