Hi I bought this ring today, it's very heavy, I think it's brass but I'm wondering about the stone,and it's age,if anyone can help thanks in advance .

It is cold, how do I tell the difference between onyx and glass?

How to tell if this is brass,?
This can be a Moonstone, Onyx (or glass), although both stones can be black in color, Onyx stones are always opaque, Moonstones are translucent or semitransparent, so you can start with the transparency test, as for the metal, first test with a magnet, if it reacts but just slightly, it means it can be Brass, it it reacts strongly, it means it has Iron on it, and it can be just coated, if it does not react at all, it can be Copper (Copper has a almost no magnetism at all).
