Can you please help us to identify this? It was found in an estate of a friend who we are helping to clean out. Any help would be appreciated. The wheel sitting in front is loose...not sure if it is broken off from somewhere or if it is extra. Thanks so much for your help!

Well, I can tell you it's a toy steam engine made by the Gebruder Bing toy company of Nurnberg, Germany. Most of the vintage steam toys were made in Germany. The Bros. Bing ended production of this line in 1932. You've got an extra fly wheel from another engine, and you're missing a few parts - smoke stack, fuel tray (these burned solid fuel pellets), governor, drive belt, etc., but it's mostly there. Even in this condition these are highly collectible and probably worth a fair bit.
