The Newport, Indiana Auto Hillclimb is an annual event and it’s always the first Sunday of October. I’ve been going there for 20 years on my motorcycle. It’s a paved hill and you go up the hill one at a time for time. This year the winning time was 23 seconds in a 1940 Ford. My friend that won it was 84 years old, he’s been doing it for 49 years. Vehicles have to be before 1942 to go up the hill unless it was a discontinued model, example like a DeSoto. Since I bought a 1937 Chevrolet pickup truck I wanted to participate. I went up the hill this year and it took me 49 seconds. There are hundreds of cars, trucks and motorcycles. It’s just a great weekend for the town to bring in revenue to help the community. After the event was all over we all went to a restaurant north of Cayuga, Indiana. As we were sitting there I got a text telling me that I won the best truck of the Newport Auto Hillclimb for 2018. I didn’t even realize they gave a trophy for that. What an honor to win the best truck out of all the trucks there . I’ve been to four shows this year with Savannah my 37 Chevy pickup truck. I’ve won two first places, a blue ribbon and a top 10. I’ve had the truck about a year now and I’ve put over 2000 miles on it. I’ve met some awesome people and been to some great places. It’s just a joy to drive on the two lane blacktop. I’m 63 years old and enjoying every minute running around in her.
