I sort of hit on a small pod of very descent "condition wise" trunks last month, that's why I am posting this much at one time. lol.. This one is an absolutely stunning Ornate Barrel Top Trunk with floral embossed tin measuring in at 36" Long x 20" Deep x 29" Tall. It is quite the size for a trunk, that I have personally encountered that has the tin hardware, most are 34 by max 24 tall etc.. This one is the 3rd largest trunks that I have at 29 " tall. The overall exterior condition is incredible for its age. If you can find a blemish on the exterior metal, besides the single one on the one top end, your eyes are better than mine..No maker name. No interior tray. This trunk has a mixture of tin and die-cast hardware. All the tin pieces have the patent date on the pieces. I don't as a rule search for trunks with tin plated hardware foundation & although I have seen many of them, this is for me the first I've encounter with the patent date of 1880 stamped on the tin hardware. So that was neat to see for a change. The lock is a Star Lock Works 1887 Crab Style padlock which again is a first for me. Large brass buttons on slat work with tin rosettes are an added feature for this trunk. I believe the hinges on this trunk were patented 1891 so that's the earliest date for this trunk. Missing two cheaper plain wheels and handles, the rest of any imperfections to the outside are character marks..lol

Thanks again Drill, I have learned to recognize that hinge & lock from one you sent before without having to check my patent files, so your efforts for me at least, are never in vain...lol ..Its great stuff when you actually start to and are able to make application of it, thus shoving it into the old memory banks. Thanks again!!
