This is a Hong Kong Dietz lantern. Dietz stopped US made lanterns in 1971 and moved that over to Hing Kong. In 1982 lantern production moves to mainland China. That makes this one semi-vintage. The bonus here it still has the original packing material, sticker, tag and bag. To make it displayable I am going to take off the cardboard pieces but I will keep them in the bag.
I actually use lanterns like this in winter and yes I use kerosene. That and I have two propane lanterns. People like to drive into the power poles up here in winter. I use my generator so I can stay online and run the heater or the water heater. Thus lanterns and lamps for light. It is kind of an adventure when the power goes out.
    Coming up is an Albatross.

Remember them well, reliable. They drive into poles year round here.

The Dietz Jupiter is a great lantern. I runs up to 72 hours on a full tank. That's great for putting a bit of heat into areas you don't need to spend a lot of time in an emergency, like a basement or shed where you don't want pipes to freeze, etc. I have a few smaller Dietz lanterns, too, but rely more on glass oil lamps for emergency lighting and a bit of heat.

Thank you very much Toyrebel. Sorry to hear that you have year round pole crashing..

Thank you very much kwqd. That is a handy hint as the temps get into the teens during pole crashing season.

I have to love this. Back in the 60's when I was a boy scout these were the thing to have to take to camp during the summer and came in handy during the winter when a blizzard took the power out. I think I was 6 years old before we lived somewhere with electricity so using these was second nature. We didn't have indoor plumbing either but we had a two seater outhouse.

Thank you very much fhrjr2. I live without electricity now and then myself. Did you have chamber pots? I have a pot5 with a chair but so far the plumbing hasn't gone out.
Passed up a USA made one today. Should have picked it up.
