Still "the warmest coat in my closet" after all these years (not to mention "most durable", I'd suppose??) having outlived at least one or three other contenders in the meantime since I've had it. It got dragged out this afternoon for the first 'really cold day' this season, so I figured why not show it? :-)

I got the coat back in the mid 1980's or so, from my buddy Gene who was then serving in the U.S. Army Reserve. These 'plain olive drab' jackets were being officially phased out of duty (in favor of the very first 'green cammo pattern', I think?) at the time, so he was able to get hold of it (and a few more IIRC, which other friends ended up with) as they were being "retired". It retains its US ARMY insignia patch over the left breast pocket, but only adhesive remains of its original soldier's name on the right front and unit insignia on the shoulder. It came complete along with an additional button-in quilted liner (it much less 'used' than the coat itself) and more buttons, zippers, drawstrings, and velcro fasteners than ANY single coat has the right to have. <lol> Between all of them and its inherently wind/water/every other thing but bullets-PROOF fabric -- well, let's just say the Army did their homework back when they engineered and produced these things...?! <lol>

The original label inside the coat itself has long faded into non readability but the label on the liner is still intact, showing all the typical government/military 'property info'.

Field jacket liners are best snivel gear (comfort item) ever issued in the army. I used to wear one under my uniform top in cold weather-- even in freezing temps, it would keep you warm.

Amen to what scottvez wrote!!! I wore one at Ft. Carson in Colorado and Nam.
When I was discharged and got off the plane when I got home a Hippie offered me $20 bucks. I wish to this day I hadn't sold it to him!!
      Enjoy the jacket!!

Wonder what happened to mine ? Oh well, I been in the tropics for 45 yrs. & don't guess it matters that much. I think I have a few name tags somewhere & those are cooler to wear. LOL

I never wore mine in Vietnam or Thailand. When I got overseas, I was issued jungle fatigues, which I had to turn in when I came back Stateside and was then given a complete new issue of standard fatigues, including another field jacket. When I ETSed I had to turn a field jacket back in, so turned in my first jacket, since I had outgrown it, and kept the new one. It is hanging in my closet. Not sure if I have ever worn it.

THANKS SO MUCH to scottvez, keramikos, yougottahavestuff, blunderbuss2, fortapache, kwqd, Brunswick, & buckethead for your kind comments and <love it>s!

Scott, I definitely enjoy it and always have, both for its undeniable utility and even, once in awhile, for its unique 'fashion statement'... :-)
keramikos, that's it -- thanks for the interesting link!
kwqd, I'd think you'd have *plenty* (too much!) opportunity to actually wear yours, up in your area of the country -- I'm happy I truly *don't* need it all that often down here where I am...
and bb2, no you probably won't need yours anymore where you are....?
      <lol> :-) :-) :-)

In all seriousness, especially that today is Veteran's Day 11Nov2018, I also must admit that I myself have never served in the military. THUS, and for what its worth, I have always felt a special respect for my family and friends who have done so -- to protect and defend ALL of us regardless.

THANK YOU, VETERANS. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
