Any idea what this three piece mystery would have been made or used for?

    Keeling Losol Ware Chusan pattern.... but what?

    I don't think I have ever seen one and I am having no luck finding info, on the web.

    Anybody?

      It's only been a few hrs., but I'm really wanting to know too ! Maybe for draining grease from a duck etc.. Of course it would have to be turned upside down.

      Thanks blunderbuss, I was thinking it was a potpourri urn or vase, because of the pierced lid....but I would love if somebody could say for sure.

      It is definitely NOT Chinese. It is marked KEELING & CO. LOSOL WARE , it is large, approximately 12" x 12"

      There is one pierced lid, that sits inside of a funnel shaped piece that sits inside the urn...

      I do think the pieces belong together - and I have never seen a soap dish, a toast dish or holder, nor butter pat that is a foot by a foot in size.

      Thanks for trying to help, I had checked most of those sources already. You were my last desperate attempt.

      I have contacted hansonsauctioneers and with any luck they may provide some insight. I will keep you posted.

      definitely an ice bucket, but how well does the top of a bottle with a big fat cork in it fit through those holes?

      Well if all else fails maybe it is a thunder jug with a liquid drain on the top. You sure as hell ain't putting a wine bottle through that hole.

      I have not heard back from the auction house yet… but in my continued research I have come to believe that this is a slop bucket from a dresser set missing the wicker handle…
      which could be used as a ice bucket (sans funnel cover) or as planter jardiniere today.

      As for the pierced lid, I found one reference to “2 piece sponge drainer measures 20.5cm in diameter with factory mark underneath” . Eight inches does seem far to large for a butter pat saver or soap dish, but I really have never heard of a sponge dish.

      ::big shrug:: the mystery continues for me.

      At any rate, I will update this post as I learn anything new…

      Not a word from the auction houses -- I also think it was a slop bucket, but it made a fine ice bucket too. It is so pretty.

      so maybe they will reply this time.
