This is a map of all the whiskey steals in Clare Couty, Alabama. I was told that it hung in the sheriff 's office once. Best I can tell it is from the 1950-1960 aera. The name at the bottom is Jenkins A. Hill. I picked it up at the big flea market near Mobile, Al.

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/29631657/jenkins-angus-hill. I found this about the sheriff, I also found that he was charged with some kind of wrong doing. I am still checking on that.

According to an article in the Alabama Journal on Feb. 17, 1955 Hill was charged with killing a prisoner to prevent him from testifying against him in a liquor conspiracy. The grand jury did not indict him. This makes my hand drawn map very interesting to me.

A faster search would be for an AL sheriff who was not charged with "some kind of wrong doing". But then that may not eliminate any.

Part of my family settled in Clarke County around 1810. The were involved in the Creek War and War of 1812 there. They lived in the vicinity of Grove Hill. Definitely still country.

Sounds like they moved there just as the fun was beginning. William Weatherford & the Red-Stick Creeks were tearing the area up !

I’m researching Hill and bootlegging in Clarke County, and I’m really interested in this map and whose stills are mapped here. I’d be interested in seeing more detailed photos if you’re interested.
