This is a decor which I only confirmed as Welz production about 1 year ago, after owning an example of the decor for almost 4 years. This great example of a basket in this decor was brought to my attention by a good friend who has helped me many times in locating new examples for my collection and research.
Sitting at a mere 6.5 inches in height to the top of the handle, 6 inches long and 4.5 inches wide, the shape of this basket is not one I have seen previously. It also has small remnants of gold enameling at the rim and also on the handle. The colors shown in the first three images are pretty accurate reproductions of the decor appearance.
The last image shown all of the pieces I have seen in this decor. The inside of the basket is a clear glass, lined under that with a kind of a brick, or burnt orange interior. The outside of the baskets is covered with Mica, and has an exterior casing in a deep amber glass. This outer casing gives the mica, which is most commonly silver in appearance, a deep gold color.
The underside has a broken pontil mark that was not ground at all, although the ends of the feet were ground to help the item sit flat.
The differences in colors in the group image are due to varying lighting and cameras. Even my examples appear different from each other, but in person are all the same colors. I love this group image, as it really shows some of the widely varying aesthetics produced by Welz.
