I found this 80x80 quilt in NC last week. The pattern is called Courthouse Steps, blocks were individually handsewn to backing (no batting). Was the creator on the move? The blocks were sewn together and hand quilted in the "ditch" seams of the rails so don't show on top Old cotton fabric patterns have been reproduced over the years. I thought it was from the 1930's. Someone else said 1970's because of the brown, tan, rust colors. A quilt group in Murphy, North Carolina thought this might be Civil War era with some homespun fabrics (looser weave on the top. and now frayed).
A wonderful mystery. I almost didn't buy it because it screamed 1970's....but looking closer, I was not sure. Even if it is from the 1970's, it is gorgeous. Why did I even question it? LOL Comments appreciated!

My mother made quilts by hand when I was small. Every time I see a beautiful quit like this it reminds me of here.
hunterqlee - thank you for your comment. I agree and am reminded that my mother and grandmother loved handwork and making beautiful quilts too.
Thanks also to bobby, fort and anik for your loves.
Fabulous quilt, love the colors & can appreciate the painstaking work making it
Hi Jenni - thanks, yes - some of the strips are 5/16" wide. Obviously made in the woman's lap, each block quilted and then all sewn together.

Wow! I think this is a great find. I bet you're right and it's older than the 70's. Excellent work and love the pattern!
It was alot of fun finding this with you, wasn't it?!?
shawnanruby - thank you for paying half!! And, it was so special showing it at the quilt meeting in Murphy. What a wonderful trip to North Carolina! It is folded up in a large box since then. Thanks for commenting. XOXO
