I've had these for a while, thought I'd share them since I had them off the wall doing some rearranging for more room.
They're probably from around the early 60's. There both made of the stiff felt that most souvenir hats of that era were. You'd get them a fairs etc.
The first is a stetson type. The other is a similarly made kepi. You can probably guess the Toyrebel had one as a kid. The first one I remember getting was a kepi at Frontier City, a western theme park in Oklahoma City in the very early 60's. I've lost all my pictures but I had a picture of me on a fake stuffed horse they used for photo shoots with my kepi and a flimsy sabre, looking like a menacing Confederate raider. You could see the patch spots on the horse where it had worn through the "coat"! I also got a kepi with a Johnny Yuma The Rebel outfit later on. It had a cloth tunic with the lace up like Nick Adams wore in the TV show. I wish I could find that outfit set. These are hard to find in decent shape, they are cheaply made and get crushed easily. Again, hope all of you had a Merry Christmas. If I don't touch base with you before the first, have a Happy New Year and be careful, I wouldn't want to lose any of my CW pals. Time to mount my steed, "Patch", and ride off into the sunset. "HI-HO Patch, away!"

You're the only person I know besides my cousins in Oklahoma that's been there. I enjoyed it, they had a staged gunfight in a western town setup that you watched from across the street and other cool things. I was living in Duncan, Ok at the time. My mother was an Okie. It's so cool that you have a knife from there! I went around '60, when did you go? It's such a small world.

Since the U.S. is destroying monuments etc. of Confederates like the Spanish priests destroying the Mayan etc. record, so badly missed now, these may become a felony to possess soon.
I was there in 77. My mom is an oakie so I have relatives there. The kids there used to call me a yank because I was from California.

They think some Floridians are yankees around here. Kera, I'd love to see that photo, you ought to post it! When I lived in Duncan, my cousin was posted at Ft. Sill, my mother and I drove him back there when he was in leave one weekend. We drove him up to the gate, the sentry had his rifle, I thought that was so cool!. Dewayne, my cousin, got one of the first Corvair Monzas when he got out of the army. I thought it was a sports car. The monument destroying is getting out of hand, it's not just Confederate statues either. I can understand not liking or approving if something, If there's something I don't like, I ignore it and just don't dwell on looking at it, I don't tell you to desroy it. The same thing with something I might not like on TV, I change the channel, I don't demand you remove the program. As far as I know, you have the right to NOT look at something. If someone forcibly makes you stare at something, call the police or me, we'll make them stop.
That is one clownish statue ! I've passed it & didn't think much of it except gaudy. I had several ancestors who fought with Forrest against "the King's Men".
Forrest supposedly once said: "A government that fears guns, should fear rope also."

Toyrebel your right about the PC crowd!!! We have an entrance to the Massachusetts Statehouse after Civil War General Joesph (Fighting Joe) Hooker Entrance!!! The PC crowd wanted it removed because women felt it was offensive as the name Hooker relates to how prostitutes got the nickname from him. Read about the Myth on Buzzkill!!!

Yougotta, that's pure insanity! Fightin' Joe was a party animal, but he served his country when on duty. It's not his fault they used his name. No PC person complaining have ever seen action in combat probably. I think everyone's tired of trying to walk on eggshells to please them. Happy New Year to you.and all my other CW friends!
They are indeed cheap. I don't see how this kepi survived. It has issues but it looks better than some of the ones I had after a week of wearing. I got a good deal on it too.

Don't think that being in combat gives you any more or less right, to voice an opinion about something you see as wrong.

You're correct about having the right to voice your opinion, no matter who you are or what you did. I meant to imply to complain about the word hooker compared to the service of a person for his cointry seems extremely petty IMO. I think there are probably far more greater wrongs than a "Hooker Entrance" to tackle. I worded my comment improperly, I did NOT mean to say they do NOT have the right to complain. I also think we all HAVE the right to voice our opinion if we think their complaint is correct, incorrect, justified, overblown, etc. also. If you don't think this is reasonable, then I still respect your right to do so.

The Civil War was more tragic than the previous wars because of how much more lethal and effective weapons had become compared to medical advances. Killed more than any other war the US has fought. There were more killed in one battle than an entire previous war.
I am with you on the monuments. Now if they want to start taking down some 1970s modern art I have a sledge hammer and some wedges I use for splitting wood. Just kidding people but no one seems to like the abstract stuff.
I agree Apache, I absolutely love most classic art, it shows the incredible talent of theses artists but I just don't understand what they see in some of the weird modern stuff! I could probably draw something that looked like it. If I can do it, that proves there is no talent involved. They had some modern type painting on display in New York, I think. It turns out they had it displayed upside down! Nobody noticed for 6 months. I'm not an art expert, but I can tell if the Mona Lisa or other classic works are upside down or not immediately.
