Anyone have a clue about this? No markings of any kind. Cant find anything like it on the internet. About 4"

It is a screw lock with key.

This particular shape is also known as a "P" lock.

Thank you gentlemen Any idea of origin, date or value? I know its a shot in the dark without holding it in your hands The lock itself is 4" heavy

It's on the "high-average" side of size (I own the largest one I have ever seen, which is 5" long w/o the key; also the smallest one at 7/8", which I made).

These are easier for a competant blacksmith to make than a regular padlock & key would be and have been around at least from the mid-19th C. I saw a photo, dated ca. 1920, in a book, showing a "local" blacksmith posing with one he made. You can safely call it 19th C.

Also called a "Smokehouse" lock and a "Barndoor" lock, but obviously it could be used anywhere. Some look like the letter "D" - it all depends on the shape of the shackle.
