This little metal spool of first aid tape 'clips' into/out of its surrounding metal ring to 'open/close'. "RED CROSS" brand by JOHNSON & JOHNSON, its painted labeling is also conspicuously marked "NO CONNECTION WHATEVER WITH AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS". (somebody must have been just a wee bit touchy about 'trademarks' etc. even back whenever this was manufactured...?)
And I don't know exactly how long ago that was, but would guess 1960's-ish due to the lack of a UPC barcode on it...?
Wow!! it hurt like Hell when you pulled that stuff off a wound!!
