Celluloid snake wrap bracelet from Egyptomania's 20-30's timeframe. Soft salmon color with etching and painted details in the grooves. Celluloid can shrink, so this snake's head is tucked under his body. Don't try to reshape celluloid - it will break. I learned the hard way.

old plastic = instant love! :D
Nice Snake Bracelet my #1 Mary, and I see that Hannah has again been put into the Spotlight with it! :^)
lentilka - thank you, isn't the bracelet amazing!? Thanks for your comment.
Bill - Hannah, I got to hand it to her - is a beloved prop. Thanks for your comment about her and the bracelet which is pretty great - Happy New Year from your #1 Mary
Beautiful serpentine bangle, it's totally gorgeous! Love the salmon color, and wise design with the snake head close to the body to avoid breakage
Jenni - thanks for your comment as always! The bracelet has shrunk a little over 80 or more years, the head of the snake curled naturally over time - nothing I did or approved of darn it :-) Step back, breathe in, enjoy these old treasures?!
The snake doesn't look as dangerous with that gorgeous coral colour !
both pieces here in that gorgeous colour makes it all so beautiful !~
Mary, real snakes unnerve me. I almost picked one up when reaching for apples that had fallen from one of my trees. I couldn't even get up fast enough so I ran away on all fours!
True story!
But this little guy with his head tucked ever so slightly under his body, I love!
The color is amazing for it's age, right?
I learned from you bakelite gets darker with age? Does celluliod?
Do you think the maker was trying for a rattle snake with the black lines on his "tail" to depict rattles?
This is an amazing piece you just don't see every day!
The carved beads are incredible, these would all look lovely together!
Phil - yes the color is so great, soft salmon. Most of my celluloid is a darker salmon color....like cooked lobster LOL.
Eileen - Celluloid doesn't get darker with age, but it becomes more brittle. If there are rhinestones they will darken or cloud if perfume or other moisture has reacted with the item. This bracelet is good quality, thick enough to last. The tail has a nick, but basically it's really a nice example of stylized Egypt art deco. Yes, I love how the beads work with this color. Thanks!
