This mid50s snapshot was taken from the 800-900 block of Market Street, Kingston, PA. It was most likely photographed by either of my parents, John and Anne Straub.
The drug store, Coury’s Market, the old looking buildings on the right, and two-sided parking areal gone now. If you look closely on the upper right of the picture, you will see the cables that powered the also now gone electric trackless trolleys.
From the vehicles in the photo, it appears that buyers in those days favored Chevys!
Great pic. brings back memories!! Shopkeepers sweeping the sidewalk!!! We used to hang on the back of those trolleys where the rope was and pull it off the wire when we wanted to get off!!! and ran like hell!!! Feel guilty now about being a hellraiser then!!! But it was fun!!! then!!!

Great! There are a lot of things to look at in that picture if you take your time...wish it were a little sharper so i could read what that billboard down the street says..

Hi, slotman...my parents had simple Kodak cameras then, but still, these captured the essence of a scene. I, as you, can not make out the ad on the billboard.
But the sign on that building was really cool. "Dictating machines" were sold there. What fascinated me as a child about that sign, was at night when the sign would light up in its captivating neon green and silver, with the "bubbles" (round circles) ascending and descending the height of the sign.....
Hi Ted, I just looked closer at this pic, to see if there might be any old 'traffic lights' in it. There aren't, but there *is* a classic WESTINGHOUSE "gumball" style streetlight fixture seen on its pole just to the right of the (also way cool!) neon 'bubbles' sign...my own example of one of those is here:

I'll ALSO add my THANKS to you for showing these old photos -- your 'family connection' to Straub's Bar (etc) is just that much WAY MORE FUN background info to go along with all the rest of the history they've captured.
