Vintage Art Deco Bronze Mascots / Bookends by.French Sculptor Morante circa 1925
These leaping girls seem to have long hairs which flows down past their feet and latches on to a rock or crest which propels them forward as they leap !
The bronze mascots were sold in the same ads that sold the mascots in different novelty ads by the same founders as either mascots or bookends and they also made a lot of small lamps to increase their sales. The French did this often with their items. Most often they were identical as the mascot but sometimes they might make some very minor changes. I bought these items back in 2013 or early 2014 as my collecting of mascots was still beginning. By that time I decided to collect mainly mascots of French origin which I preferred. The form is pure Art Deco at its best ! Both mascots are signed Morante prominenbtly at the bottom.
I just got out of the hospital two weeks ago, a two week stay, and I am recovering now at home with home care for the next month at least - I am not sure how my time on CW will be affected, nor what I may have to sell, but please no requests for info or revision pics. Thank you.
